Research interests
Kate Conigrave's research focuses on alcohol and drug use and its impact on health, coming from a public health perspective. She has a special interest in early detection and intervention for alcohol problems, and on putting best evidence into clinical practice in relation to interventions for alcohol and drug use disorders.
Over the past 10 years she has had the opportunity to work collaboratively in research with Aboriginal agencies and communities, in their efforts to address substance misuse.
The projects she is currently working on include an NHMRC funded trial of a community wide smoking intervention in several Arnhem Land communities and a study of education and brief intervention for alcohol use based in urban Aboriginal communities in NSW. She is also involved in studies on the impact of alcohol in urban emergency departments, and methods to improve implementation of early intervention for alcohol problems in NSW and elsewhere in Australia.
